Riverside Sports Arena

The new national grade sports arena and wider facility is a replacement for the aging Dam Park. The project sits within a vacant site of some 6.7 hectares adjacent to Ayr Academy.

Location: Ayr
Client: South Ayrshire Council
Cost: £8.25m
Completion: 2022
Services: Civil & Structural and Building Services

The project consists of a new 8-lane all weather athletics track, changing pavilion, spectator terracing for 250 people, indoor athletics hall, full size 3G artificial grass pitch for rugby, with associated floodlighting, fencing, car parking, access roads, footpaths and landscaping.

Significant earthworks were required to establish development platforms for the athletics and grass infield overlay, 3G rugby pitch, pavilion building, fabric covered athletics building, roads, footpaths, car and bus parking. Piled foundations were required to address poor ground conditions adjacent to the River Ayr.

Results

The arena features indoor and outdoor spaces including an eight-lane 400m running track, a six-lane 60m indoor running track, and a field events area.

A 3G all-weather pitch, fully accessible changing areas, reception, a café and social area are also part of the facility, situated just beside Ayr Academy.

The development has been hailed as a major investment in North Ayr, as it looks to become a hub for the local community.

“Edrington have worked with Blyth and Blyth for the past 15 years on various projects throughout the group and during this time we have developed a close and trusting partnership. B&B offer the full range of engineering services, allowing us to have a one stop shop on engineering consultancy requirements, with the obvious benefits this brings. B&B experience in the whisky industry is second to none which has the double benefit of not wasting time and money having to explain the process each time. As said previously, Edrington have been working with B&B for more than15 years and with a fair wind this relationship will continue for a further 15 years and beyond.”
