The new campus will re-locate the existing Newmains and St Brigid’s primary schools along with the Newmains Family Learning Centre at a single location. The accommodation included 2 single stream schools with 8 classrooms each, assembly/dining / social area, drama, games hall, changing facilities, offices, kitchen, family zone, early years, and Nursery. Housing 587 pupils and 67.5 Staff.
Sustainability is at the heart of the project, in which each teaching wing and lower level space is constructed from structural timber framing, significantly reducing the building’s embodied carbon. Reclaimed timber is used in the landscaping design, whilst the Hub’s unique interior is characterised by distinctive timber finishes.
Key Challenges
The entire design phase of the project including planning approval was undertaken during Covid lockdown with all parties demonstrating a willingness and ability to find new ways of working and continuing to collaborate and build relationships.
