Edinburgh Royal Infirmary

The long awaited construction of the New Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh commenced on site at Little France in June 1998. The £160M, 870 bed hospital was procured through the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) route.

Handed over in stages to the NHS Trust and The University Medical School, full patient occupation was achieved in Spring 2003.

Blyth & Blyth were Civil and Structural design engineers for the entire project in a commission that spanned five years. The building houses all operations and aspects of a modern acute hospital but in addition includes significant research facilities including laboratories and teaching accommodation for the University Medical School.
